19th August > 23rd AUGUST 2024

SUMMER CAMP is for everyone going into Yr7 to Yr13 and is a week away full of fun, friends, food, activities, praise, worship, Bible, hanging out and GOD.

This year we are so excited to be back at WESTONBIRT SCHOOL in Gloucestershire.

From Monday 19th to Friday 23rd August 2024 we will be staying at the legendary venue, with access to the whole site including swimming pool, sports centre, massive grounds, football pitches (that we can use!), gardens (including a lovely Italian walled garden for those who like that sort of thing!), and of course the amazing house itself.

WHAT DO WE DO?

Throughout the week we will be enjoying different activities including things like scavenger hunts, wide games (capture the flag, tag etc), swimming, talent show and tribal wars (a selection of smaller games and activities that the youth carry out in teams throughout the week to gain points – the team with the most points at the end of the week wins a prize (*a decent prize*).

There is also plenty of free time to spend with the friends you have but also to make new friends.

Each day we have different sessions that include praise, worship, and inspiring and often challenging preach. There are also times where we get together in small groups to discuss different topics, these might follow on from subjects preached about, or they might be issues and subjects the youth themselves want to talk about.

and then there is the food...

Every day we are fed some awesome, high quality, fresh food!

Breakfast is usually continental style (pastries etc), there is always a selection of cereals, toast, yoghurt and fruit available.\

Lunch and dinner varies throughout the week, there are always a couple of options including a vegetarian option, and as with breakfast there are always some breads and fruit available.

There is something for everyone… even the pickiest of eaters!

ACCOMMODATION

Westonbirt School is a boarding school (https://westonbirt.org/).

There are a selection of different bedrooms throughout the site. These vary from single rooms, double rooms up to maybe five or six to a room.

Each room has beds and places to keep clothes (drawers/wardrobes) as you would expect in a boarding school. Bathrooms/showers and toilets are shared between rooms but there are plenty to service the accommodation.

Female and male rooms are in separate locations and bathrooms/showers and toilets and not shared between them. At least one leader (more than likely two or more) will be sleeping in a room in each area of the site (male leaders in male areas and female in female areas).

Rooms are allocated sensitively by the youth pastors with input from youth leaders in each congregation. It is not possible for youth or parents to pick or choose a room type (unless there are needs/requirements discussed at the time of booking, although guarantees cannot be made on every booking).

Travel

Most of the youth will travel on a coach departing from and returning to Empower Centre Portsmouth (PO2 7DX). It may be necessary for some to travel in a minibus or leaders cars, but this will all be discussed, agreed and confirmed nearer the time.

The youth will meet up together and depart from the Empower Centre on the morning of Monday 19th. They will stop en route at a service station for lunch (packed lunch or bought lunch). Once they arrive on site there is a briefing with everyone together to  give out any information the youth will need throughout the week. Then the youth will be shown to their rooms. After some free time there is a hot meal served and then the fun begins (if it hasn’t already!!!).

On Friday 23rd August the coach will come to collect us in the morning or early afternoon (we will eat before we leave) and we aim to be back at Empower Centre later on in the afternoon or early evening (traffic dependant).

Exact timing will be communicated nearer to the event.

WHAT IS IT LIKE?

There is definitely something for everyone at Summer Camp. You might be loud and want centre stage, or you might just like to quietly watch and join in when you are comfortable to do so, everyone is welcome and has a place at Summer Camp. As well as there being lots of high energy activities and fun times, there is also time to chill, chat with your friends, play board games or whatever you like to do.

There is a large team of DBS checked leaders who are there to support the youth. This includes a Welfare Lead who will be our go to for any health related questions or support. All of our leaders are there to help however they are able and you will always be able to find a listening ear with one of them!
