Prince of Peace

By Gina Elmes

Resources Prince of Peace
Isaiah 9:6, NIV
And he will be called…Prince of Peace.
Brokenness can be seen in every area of this world. It was prophesied in the book of Isaiah that one of the names that the Messiah would be called was the Prince of Peace. The word used for peace here is shalom. This word, in the Strong’s Concordance (7965), means “completeness, soundness, and welfare”. This implies that where there is a lack of peace that there is incompleteness, damage and impairment. It’s like when you put together a puzzle but there are a few pieces missing so the picture is imperfect, deficient, and even broken.

When Jesus left His home in Heaven to come to the earth, He was the missing piece that didn’t just complete the picture, but he perfected it as well. He was the piece that in itself or rather Himself, was wholeness, and brought life and meaning to all the other pieces.

Romans 8:3, MSG
In His Son, Jesus, he personally took on the human condition, entered the disordered mess of struggling humanity in order to set it right once and for all.

In Luke 2:14 we see a whole company of angels appearing and singing that ‘our peace has come’. The missing part – the piece we needed to have forgiveness of sins, the healing of our brokenness, and to have full access to Father God – had come as a little baby and grew in perfection into manhood with the sole purpose of taking the punishment that would bring shalom into our lives.

If Jesus is missing from your life you need to include Him if you want to experience the wholeness He brings. If you are already a follower of Christ but still there is brokenness in areas of your life, you need to bring those areas to Him, and as you discover what the Word says about your situation be obedient to apply that wisdom. Today, allow the Prince of Peace to bring all He is into all areas of your life, and peace (wholeness) which transcends all understanding will guard your heart and your mind. (Philippians 4:7, NIV)
