The book of Hebrews has been blowing my mind lately. These first two verses of Hebrews introduce us to a book that celebrates Jesus. The Word makes you fall in love with Jesus.
Have you ever spoken to someone and they are just so excited about Him? They get so passionate and almost lose words when they speak about Him. I’ve noticed that in people, and I sometimes felt like I was missing something that they’re all seeing. As I read more of the Word, I have become more passionate about Jesus. It is very hard not to, when all of Scripture reveals His glory. The Word and the Son go hand in hand. It even says in John 1 that Jesus is the Word made flesh. If you want to know Jesus, you need to know the Word.
I’m not even just talking about the Gospels – I mean literally the whole book, from front to back and from top to bottom. Genesis to Revelation, it is all Jesus. He is the glory of the Father. He is the radiance of God, He is King Jesus! I don’t want to treat Jesus like an add-on or an extension when He is the foundation. We can’t have the Word without the Son, because the Word is the Son. We can’t have the Father without the Son because the Son is the way to the Father. We can’t have the Spirit without the Son because the Son gave us the Spirit.
I want the real Jesus of the Word, not just mine or someone else’s idea of Him. There’s only one way to know Him and that is through reading the Word yourself. Second hand isn’t enough. Imagine if you knew someone only by what other people told you about them, you would sit with friends and they would tell you all about this person. You would know a lot about that person, but you wouldn’t know that person. They wouldn’t be your friend. How could we know Jesus only by what other people tell us about Him? Why don’t we just get to know Him ourselves? Through the Word and through prayer, not either or.
May we know Jesus. I want to read the Word to know Jesus and to fall in love with Him more and more. I encourage you to get passionate about Jesus, not by whipping up emotion, but by reading the Word. As you know the Word, you will know the Son.
